Meet the Leaders!

  'O
tter' is what the Beaver Scout Leader is usually called.  Paddy (Patrick) is the Beaver leader.  He himself is an ex-Scout who jumped at the chance of becoming involved in Scouting again when 'Akela' asked if he'd like to run the Beaver colony.

'Hi I'm Paddy and I got back into Scouting because I started taking my step-children to Church Parade.  I got talking to Lee-Ann and told her that I was an ex-Scout myself.  A few weeks later she asked me whether I would be interested in running the the new Beaver Colony.  In addition to Beaver Scout Leader I also assist with the Scout Troop.  I am really enjoying Scouting again because it is very rewarding, a chance to meet new people as well as enjoying new experiences and challenges.'

'Akela'
is the name traditionally given to the Cub Scout Leader (Lee-Ann).  Akela was the leader of the wolf pack that looked after Mowgli in Rudyard Kipling's 'Jungle Book'.

"Hi there!  I'm Lee-Ann and it is largely due to my son who inspired me, like thousands of other Parents, to get involved in Scouting, when he joined the local Beaver colony.  I started my Scouting when the Leader of the previous group I was involved with was going to have to start a waiting-list - unless one of the parents came forward to help.  I have not looked back since then!  I was then asked by community members to re-open 22nd Carlisle which had been closed down for a number of years, which is a significant boost for Scouting in Cumbria."

'Skip' is traditionally the name given to Scout Leaders.

" Hi I'm Iain, it was my wife and son who inspired me to get involved with Scouting, when we enrolled him in the local Beaver Colony. In the past I frequently helped my wife with Cub camps, and when the previous Scout Leader had to resign from the group, my wife encouraged me to take on the role, otherwise the Scout group would have closed down.  I have learnt a great deal both about dealing with youngsters and and various skills needed to instruct them - as a group, we are very active and have a lot of fun.  Our group is growing at a steady rate.
